Battlegrounds Mobile India, also known as the immensely popular battle royale shooter BGMI, has recently returned to iOS and Android platforms in India following a nearly one-year suspension. The developers Krafton relaunched the mobile game with duration limitations on May 29. A few days after beginning its second existence in India, BGMI is now the focal point of an esports competition. Skyesports, an esports and gaming company, is hosting a BGMI tournament with an Rs. 25 lakh prize pool.
The Skyesports Champions Series tournament will run from June 9 to June 18, and the esports company tweeted on Saturday. The BGMI tournament will commence at 13:00 IST and will be streamed on the Skyesports YouTube channel. Since the game was outlawed in India in July of 2022, competitive BGMI tournaments have ceased.
Skyesports CEO Shiva Nandy stated in August 2022 that the BGMI prohibition was only provisional and that the game would return.
Daily time limits have been incorporated into the relaunched version of BGMI to combat the problem of gaming addiction. In addition to a new map based on a tropical island resort, the latest game update includes new in-game events and updates to classic maps. Minors will be limited to three hours of recreation per day, while adults will be able to engage for up to six.
Last month, Krafton confirmed that the Indian government had permitted them to bring BGMI back to India for a trial period of three months. In July of last year, the game was prohibited due to concerns about data privacy and online security. Under Section 69 of the IT Act, BGMI was removed from both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, severely impacting the mobile esports community in the country.
“We are extremely appreciative to the Indian government for permitting Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) to resume operations. In a press release, Sean Hyunil Sohn, CEO of Krafton India, stated, “We would like to express our appreciation to the Indian gaming community for their support and patience over the past few months.”
BGMI is now available for installation on both iOS and Android via the App Store and Google Play Store, respectively. However, according to the developers, playability will be intermittent, and users will be able to log on in phases within 48 hours.
